Autism is an unfortunate condition that has rapidly advanced in the last two decades, increasing by more than 500%. Autism Spectral Disorders (ASD) consists of mainly five categories of neuro-developmental disorders that affect social interactions, communicative abilities and result in stereotypical behaviors. These include Autism, Asperger’s syndrome, Rhett’s syndrome, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder NOS. The disorders affect individuals before the age of 3 years most commonly, and autistic disorders affect boys more than girls at a ratio of 4:1. The prevalence by recent data from the Centers of Disease Control indicate that 1 in every 150 children are affected as of 2002.
